Cobb County Human Resources Class Title: SECURITY ADMINISTRATOR DEPARTMENT: INFORMATION SERVICES DESCRIPTION Develops, revises, implements, monitors data security policies and procedures; conducts data security audits, installs, tests, upgrades, configures, implements and manages network security hardware and software. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification. Installs, tests and configures security systems, equipment on a network. Monitors security hardware and software located on LANS and WANS. Evaluates and recommends the acquisition of new and replacement security equipment. Conducts security audits for compliance with approved policies and procedures and reports to management. Performs investigations related to data security and reports to management. Maintains and recommends security policies and procedures. Performs critical fault isolation to minimize data security failures. Plans, coordinates and manages security maintenance, upgrades and expansions with respect to hardware and software completed internally or by outside providers. Develops and implements security policies, procedures and standards. Monitors security measures and reports violations to management. Estimates project requirements and costs for data security. Maintains security systems diagrams. Maintains version and patch levels on all security software. Maintains security settings and authentication lists. Reviews renovation and new construction plans for completeness and adherence to County data security standards. Reads journals and other publications for the purpose of staying current with data security trends and technologies. Maintains attendance and punctuality within customary tolerances for this position. Performs other related duties as assigned. MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED: Personal Computer Standard Office Equipment Standard Software Applications Diagnostic Tools Diagnostics Software File Servers / Network Components Software Patches Software Upgrades Basic Hand Held Trades Tools MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems, Computer Technology, Computer Science or related area; supplemented by three (3) years professional experience in systems security administration for a multiple file server environment supporting a complex database infrastructure in a local and wide area network (LAN/WAN) environment; additional security administration experience specific to public sector file server management in a multiple server environment utilizing current technologies may substitute for a portion of the required education requirements; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the methods, tools, and techniques applied to diagnostics, maintenance and management of hardware and software associated with security administration. Knowledge of the various other technical disciplines of the industry, e.g., web management, database management, network administration, server administration. Knowledge of principles, practices, and protocols for server and high-end applications infrastructure and administration in a large-scale, multi-agency environment. Knowledge of the body of available and current information resources applicable to the department’s functions for technical research purposes and for special projects as may be assigned. Interpersonal, leadership, planning, management and communications skills; ability to communicate professionally verbally, in writing, and in presentations. Skill in reading and interpreting technical and trade journals, industry specific periodicals, product / manufacturer specifications, and related technical information and data. Skill in the areas of critical thinking, technical analyses, and problem solving. Skill in researching, compiling, and summarizing statistical data and information materials. Ability to identify and diagnose the source of security concerns and related operational deficiencies; ability to recommend and implement solutions accordingly. Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to speak effectively before other unit/employee groups and respond to questions. Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve potential and real operational and system deficiencies to ensure continued adherence to security principles and protocols. Ability to utilize personal computers, standard office equipment and standard software applications, e.g., word processors, database software, spreadsheet applications. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, division and department heads, public/private sector contacts, and County administration. Ability to organize work, establish priorities, meet established deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and lift and/or move up to 10 to 20 pounds. While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is rarely exposed to disagreeable environmental factors. |
